Telangana Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on Tuesday said the allocation of the Tadicherla-2 Coal Block to Singareni Collieries Company Limited marks a major milestone for the State’s coal sector and is the result of the Telangana Government’s sustained efforts over the past two years.

Welcoming the announcement made by Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy, the Deputy Chief Minister said the allocation would provide Singareni with mining opportunities for another 40 years and significantly strengthen the company’s long-term sustainability.

State’s Persistent Efforts Yield Results

Bhatti Vikramarka said he had personally met former Union Coal Minister Pralhad Joshi in New Delhi on March 7, 2024, requesting the allocation of the Tadicherla-2 mining lease to Singareni.

He said the demand was reiterated during the Centre’s coal block auction programme held in Hyderabad in June 2024, followed by another representation to Union Minister Kishan Reddy on November 27, 2024. He added that during his visit to New Delhi in May this year, he again urged the Union Government to allocate the block to SCCL.

The Deputy Chief Minister also noted that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had raised the issue directly with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking the allocation of Tadicherla and other coal blocks to Singareni.

Thanks to the Centre

Bhatti Vikramarka expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy for approving the State Government’s request and allocating the Tadicherla-2 block to Singareni. He also appealed to the Union Government to allocate additional coal blocks in Telangana to strengthen the public sector mining company further.

Revival of Naini Coal Block

Highlighting the government’s initiatives, the Deputy Chief Minister said the Naini Coal Block in Odisha, which had remained non-operational due to pending approvals during the previous administration, was revived after the present government secured necessary clearances, engaged with local communities, and commenced coal production.

He said the successful allocation of the Tadicherla-2 block demonstrates the government’s commitment to expanding Singareni’s operations and ensuring its long-term growth.

A Major Boost for Singareni

According to the Deputy Chief Minister, the Tadicherla Open Cast-II mine in Jayashankar Bhupalpally district possesses 434.14 million tonnes of geological reserves, of which around 340 million tonnes are estimated to be extractable.

The project is expected to:

  • Produce 10 million tonnes of coal annually.
  • Supply high-quality G-9 grade coal.
  • Generate employment for nearly 3,000 people, directly and indirectly.
  • Accelerate infrastructure development, including roads and rail connectivity.
  • Strengthen coal supply for Telangana’s power and industrial sectors.
  • Support Singareni’s long-term goal of achieving 100 million tonnes of annual coal production.

Bhatti Vikramarka said the allocation would significantly contribute to the socio-economic development of the Bhupalpally region while securing the future expansion of Singareni.
