KTR Serves Defamation Notice to Deccan Chronicle Over Allegedly False Report

BRS Leader Seeks Public Apology and Removal of Article Within 48 Hours

BRS Working President and Telangana MLA Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao (KTR) has issued a legal defamation notice to the management of Deccan Chronicle Holdings Limited, alleging that a report published by the newspaper was defamatory and intended to damage his reputation.

According to a statement issued by KTR’s legal representatives, PV Janani & Associates, the notice pertains to a front-page article titled “KTR’s ‘Landlord’ Builds Tower in Hussainsagar,” published on July 8, 2026. The legal team alleged that the report was deliberately written to tarnish KTR’s public image by making false and misleading allegations.

The notice states that the article attempted to link building permissions granted to a private developer near Hussain Sagar with a farmhouse property in Janwada. KTR’s lawyers categorically denied any association between the BRS leader and the private project, its developer, or the permissions granted for the construction.

The legal notice further asserted that allegations suggesting KTR misused his authority while serving as a minister were entirely baseless. It claimed that the newspaper had revived previously rejected allegations without producing any supporting evidence and published the report without seeking KTR’s version, thereby violating basic journalistic standards.

KTR’s legal team has demanded that Deccan Chronicle immediately remove the article and all related digital content, publish an unconditional public apology, and refrain from publishing similar reports in the future.

The notice gives the newspaper 48 hours to comply with these demands. It warns that failure to do so would compel KTR to initiate appropriate civil and criminal legal proceedings, including claims for damages, against the newspaper’s management.
