Forest Minister directs new PCCF to strengthen forest protection, expand green cover, and enhance public participation in Vanamahotsavam

HYDERABAD, July 3: Telangana Minister for Forests, Environment and Endowments, Konda Surekha, on Friday met the newly appointed Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), Vinay Kumar, at her residence in Jubilee Hills and extended her congratulations on assuming charge as the head of the State Forest Department.

During the meeting, the Minister held detailed discussions with the new PCCF on the State Government’s priorities for forest conservation, expansion of green cover, biodiversity protection, social forestry initiatives, and the successful implementation of the prestigious Vanamahotsavam programme through greater public participation.

Konda Surekha emphasized that protecting forest wealth is a shared responsibility and essential for safeguarding the interests of future generations. She said the Telangana Government accords the highest priority to environmental protection and biodiversity conservation and directed the Forest Department to work in close coordination to effectively implement the government’s policies and developmental initiatives.

The Minister also instructed the PCCF to accelerate the use of technology in forest management, strengthen forest protection measures, promote afforestation, and fast-track programmes aimed at sustainable forest development across the State.

Vinay Kumar assured the Minister that the Forest Department would work with full commitment to achieve the targets set by the State Government. He thanked Konda Surekha for initiating annual awards and cash incentives for forest officers and staff in recognition of their outstanding service in protecting the State’s forest resources. He said the initiative would serve as a major motivation for the department and stands as a milestone in recognizing the dedication of forest personnel.

Later, former PCCF Suvarna also paid a courtesy visit to the Minister following her retirement. Konda Surekha felicitated her with a traditional saree, appreciated her distinguished contribution to the Forest Department, and wished her a happy and fulfilling post-retirement life.
