#StandWithHer Panel Discussion Highlights the Need to Challenge Anger, Ego and Toxic Masculinity
Hyderabad, October 10, 2026 (The Journalist Post): “All these behaviours that men have learnt can be unlearnt too,” said Ms. Charu Sinha, IPS, Director General of CID, ACB and WSW, highlighting the importance of challenging toxic masculinity and promoting healthier relationships based on mutual respect, empathy and equality.
She was speaking at the eighth edition of the #StandWithHer campaign’s panel discussion series, held at WE Hub, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Open University, Hyderabad. The discussion focused on the theme “Anger, Ego and Toxic Masculinity” and brought together prominent voices from public administration, media, entertainment and entrepreneurship to examine how harmful gender stereotypes affect individuals, relationships and society.

Challenging Stereotypes Around Masculinity
The panel discussed how societal expectations often normalise anger, control and dominance as expressions of masculinity. Speakers emphasised that such attitudes can negatively influence personal relationships, workplaces and public spaces. They called for greater emotional awareness, open communication and a collective effort to challenge stereotypes that reinforce gender inequality.
Ms. Charu Sinha stressed that men and women are complementary to each other, with neither being superior or inferior. She underscored the importance of mutual respect, equality and shared responsibility in building a more inclusive society.
Communication and Emotional Awareness Are Essential
Ms. Anusha, PM, CDEW, WSW, highlighted the importance of taking time to process emotions during disagreements. However, she pointed out that communicating the need for space is equally important. Without clear communication, the other person may feel neglected or ignored. Balancing emotional regulation with consideration for others, she said, is essential for maintaining healthy relationships.
Actress, anchor and theatre practitioner Ms. Jhansi observed that patriarchy is not perpetuated by men alone. Women can also reinforce patriarchal attitudes through everyday beliefs, practices and behaviours. She emphasised the need for everyone to reflect on and challenge the stereotypes that sustain gender inequality.
Channel Anger Through Positive Activities
Actor and theatre artist Mr. Vamsee Chaganti suggested that sports and physical activities can provide constructive ways to channel anger, relieve stress and manage emotions. He encouraged individuals to adopt healthier approaches to handling frustration rather than allowing anger to affect their relationships and interactions.
Ms. Pamela Satpathy, IAS, Special Commissioner, Labour, Government of Telangana, emphasised the importance of pausing and reflecting during disagreements. She encouraged people to consider whether winning an argument is more important than preserving a relationship. Perspective, understanding and emotional maturity, she noted, play a crucial role in resolving conflicts.
Recognising Everyday Gender Bias
Ms. Sita Pallacholla, CEO of WE Hub, drew attention to mansplaining—a behaviour in which women’s knowledge, opinions or experiences may be unnecessarily explained to them or undermined. She highlighted the need to recognise such everyday patterns and encourage conversations grounded in mutual respect.
The discussion was moderated by Ms. Deepthi Vajpayee, Senior News Presenter and Anchor at TV9. The panel collectively emphasised that addressing toxic masculinity requires individual reflection, open dialogue and a willingness to take responsibility for one’s behaviour.
#StandWithHer Campaign Promotes Equality
#StandWithHer is a year-long initiative designed to promote dialogue on gender equality by creating spaces where men and women can engage in honest and constructive conversations. With a different theme explored each month, the campaign seeks to raise awareness, encourage mutual understanding and inspire positive social change.
The eighth edition reinforced the message that true strength lies in empathy, self-awareness and respect—not dominance or control. By challenging harmful attitudes and encouraging emotional maturity, the campaign continues to advocate for relationships and communities built on equality, dignity and mutual respect.
