250 Liters of Banned Herbicides Worth ₹1.44 Lakhs Seized; Car and Two Motorcycles Confiscated
Tandur, August 2 (THE JOURNALIST POST):
Police in Telangana are cracking down heavily on the illegal transport of banned herbicides. Tandur police arrested four individuals who were attempting to illegally transport banned herbicides from Maharashtra to sell to farmers. Authorities seized approximately 250 liters of the banned chemicals—valued at ₹1.44 lakhs—along with a car and two two-wheelers. According to the police, acting on credible information, they set up special surveillance and conducted vehicle checks within the Bhimini Mandal limits. During this operation, they apprehended the four individuals who were illegally transporting the banned herbicides from Maharashtra. Police revealed that, upon questioning, the accused admitted they had brought the chemicals to sell to farmers in Telangana.
Officials stated that the seized banned herbicides are valued at approximately ₹1.44 lakhs. They also confirmed the confiscation of the car and two motorcycles used for the illegal transport. A case has been registered against the accused under relevant laws, and the investigation is ongoing. On this occasion, the police offered key advice to farmers. They warned that using herbicides or chemicals not approved by the government poses a risk of damaging soil fertility and reducing crop yields. They also explained that the use of such chemicals could lead to various health issues, including skin-related ailments.
Farmers were advised to purchase agricultural chemicals—such as fertilizers and pesticides—only from licensed shops and to obtain a receipt for every purchase. They were urged not to fall for the claims of middlemen offering lower prices and to remain vigilant against the sale of banned or unauthorized herbicides.
An appeal was made to immediately inform the police if anyone is found selling herbicides without authorization in the villages or if there is information regarding their illegal transport. The police assured that the identities of those providing such information would be kept strictly confidential.
The police clarified that special surveillance is being maintained across the state to curb the illegal transport of banned herbicides and emphasized that strict action will continue against those involved in such illicit activities, in the interest of protecting farmers’ health and the environment.
