Canada’s High Commissioner to India, Chris Cooter, on Wednesday met Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and invited him to lead an official Telangana delegation to Canada to strengthen bilateral trade, investment, innovation and educational partnerships.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister and the Canadian envoy held wide-ranging discussions on expanding cooperation in infrastructure, urban development, technology, clean energy, higher education and advanced manufacturing. The talks also focused on enhancing investment opportunities between Canada and Telangana.

The discussions covered several flagship projects being undertaken by the Telangana Government, including the Musi River Development Project, the Hyderabad Metro Rail expansion, and the proposed Future City initiative. Both sides explored opportunities for Canadian participation in these large-scale urban development projects.

High Commissioner Chris Cooter highlighted the growing presence of Canadian businesses in Telangana. He referred to Firan Technology Group’s decision to establish a manufacturing facility in Hyderabad, the opening of a Global Capability Centre (GCC) by CIBC, and the strategic investment by CPP Investments in Hyderabad-based CtrlS Datacenters, under which CPP Investments has committed up to CAD 1 billion.

Chief Minister Revanth Reddy outlined Telangana’s achievements in the Information Technology, Life Sciences, Defence and Aerospace sectors and highlighted Hyderabad’s emergence as one of India’s leading destinations for Fortune 500 Global Capability Centres (GCCs). He said the state continues to provide a business-friendly ecosystem, skilled workforce and world-class infrastructure that attract global investors.

The Chief Minister also explained the government’s vision for the Musi River rejuvenation, describing it as part of a broader strategy to create a sustainable riverfront economy. He sought Canada’s cooperation in Telangana’s renewable energy initiatives, including solar power expansion and the promotion of a green economy.

Highlighting Telangana’s ambition to become a global knowledge hub, Revanth Reddy said several internationally renowned universities are planning to establish campuses in Hyderabad. He proposed the creation of a multi-university Canadian education campus in the city, bringing together leading Canadian universities under one academic ecosystem.

Inviting greater Canadian participation in Telangana’s growth story, the Chief Minister urged Canadian companies, investors and educational institutions to participate in the second Telangana Global Investors Summit, scheduled to be held in December 2026, to explore new investment and partnership opportunities.

Speaking after the meeting, High Commissioner Chris Cooter praised Telangana’s forward-looking development model and its strong focus on employment generation. He said the state possesses enormous growth potential supported by a highly skilled talent pool and assured Canada’s support for Telangana’s development initiatives.

The High Commissioner also announced that a Canadian trade delegation would visit Telangana in the coming months to hold detailed discussions on collaboration in sectors such as energy, urbanisation, defence and aerospace.

Advisor and Ex-Officio Special Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister K. Ramakrishna Rao, Invest Telangana CEO B. Ajith Reddy, TGIIC Managing Director Shashanka, ITE&C Joint Secretary Anudeep Durishetty, and Director of Industries Nikhil Chakravarthy were present during the meeting.
