Alleges Government Is Prioritising Politics Over Restoration of the Kaleshwaram Barrage

BRS MLC Dr. Dasoju Sravan on Wednesday launched a sharp attack on Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accusing the Congress government of neglecting the restoration of the Medigadda Barrage under the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project while engaging in political criticism of the previous BRS administration.
In a statement issued in Hyderabad, Dr. Sravan alleged that the state government had failed to focus on repairing irrigation infrastructure and instead was using the Medigadda issue for political purposes. Referring to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s participation in a recent programme in Karnataka, he questioned why the Telangana government had not taken up restoration works at Medigadda with the same urgency shown by neighbouring states in repairing major irrigation projects.
Drawing comparisons with Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the BRS leader claimed that the Karnataka government had replaced all 33 crest gates of the Tungabhadra Dam within a short period after damage to one gate, while the Andhra Pradesh government had undertaken reconstruction of the diaphragm wall at the Polavaram Project after flood damage.
Dr. Sravan alleged that only two to three pillars of the 86-pillar Medigadda Barrage had sustained damage and argued that the government should have undertaken immediate repairs instead of allowing the issue to become a political controversy.
He accused the Congress government of deliberately delaying restoration work to target former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) politically, claiming that the delay was adversely affecting Telangana’s farmers and irrigation needs.
The BRS MLC urged the Chief Minister to prioritise the repair and restoration of Medigadda and ensure that irrigation infrastructure is made operational in the interests of farmers rather than prolonging political disputes over the project.
