Fishermen’s Association Protests During Koheda Fish Market Foundation Ceremony

THE JOURNALIST POST

KOHEDA, July 10

A protest broke out during the foundation-laying ceremony for a wholesale fish market at Koheda on Friday while Telangana Minister Vakiti Srihari was attending the official programme.

Leaders and members of the Telangana Fishermen and Fishery Workers’ Association staged a demonstration, demanding that the State Government immediately deposit funds into the accounts of fisheries cooperative societies for the purchase of fish and shrimp seed.

The protesters raised slogans and sought immediate action from the government, stating that timely financial support was essential for fisheries societies to carry out stocking activities and sustain the livelihoods of fishermen.

As the protest intensified, police intervened and detained the demonstrators to prevent disruption of the official programme. The detained protesters were shifted from the venue, following which the event continued under police security.

The association urged the government to release the pending funds without delay and fulfil its commitments to the fishing community.
