Koppula Eshwar Alleges BJP and Congress Playing Political Drama; Demands All Telangana Coal Blocks Be Allotted to SCCL

HYDERABAD | July 7, 2026

Former Telangana Minister and Honorary President of the Telangana Boggu Gani Karmika Sangham (TBGKS), Koppula Eshwar, on Tuesday claimed that the allocation of the Tadicherla Block-II coal mine to Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) was the result of sustained struggles by the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) and TBGKS, while accusing both the BJP and Congress of politicising the issue.

Addressing a press conference, Koppula Eshwar alleged that the recent announcement by Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy regarding the allocation of Tadicherla Block-II was intended to divert attention from alleged irregularities in Singareni and to shield the Congress government from criticism. He further alleged that the BJP leadership was attempting to protect the Congress government, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka.

Demand for Allocation of All Coal Blocks

Koppula Eshwar said the BRS and TBGKS welcomed the allocation of Tadicherla Block-II but demanded that all remaining coal blocks in Telangana also be allotted to SCCL instead of being opened for private participation. He criticised both the Congress and BJP, alleging that they were responsible for introducing policies that enabled private companies to secure coal mines through auctions and tendering.

“The future of Singareni and its workers can only be protected by allocating every coal block in Telangana to SCCL. There can be no compromise on the rights of Singareni or its employees,” he said.

Employment and Coal Production

According to Koppula Eshwar, the Tadicherla Block-II allocation will enable SCCL to extract approximately 277 million tonnes of coal and generate employment for nearly 1,400 permanent workers.

He pointed out that the coal reserves in Tadicherla were originally identified by Singareni itself and said the allocation would strengthen the company’s long-term operations.

Credits BRS and TBGKS Agitations

The former minister said the BRS and TBGKS had conducted several protests, including demonstrations with black badges at coal mines and General Manager offices, demanding that Telangana’s coal blocks be allotted to SCCL without auctions. He said BRS public representatives, former legislators and TBGKS leaders had repeatedly submitted memoranda to both the State and Central governments seeking direct allocation of coal blocks.Koppula Eshwar also alleged that trade unions such as All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) and Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) had urged the Congress government to participate in coal block auctions.

He claimed that both Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka had earlier maintained that Telangana could secure coal blocks only through the auction process.Maintaining that the BRS consistently opposed auctions, Koppula Eshwar asserted that the allocation of the Tadicherla Block-II coal mine represents a victory for the sustained struggle led by the BRS and TBGKS to safeguard Singareni’s interests and protect employment opportunities for mine workers.
