Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Working President K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Wednesday said the World Bank’s recognition of Telangana as an ‘Upper-Middle-Income’ economy is an international endorsement of the visionary leadership of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and the state’s remarkable economic transformation under the BRS government.
Referring to the World Bank’s latest classification, KTR stated that Telangana’s projected per capita income of ₹4.19 lakh (US$5,407) for the financial year 2025-26 has placed the state in the Upper-Middle-Income category, making it one of only five Indian states to achieve the distinction. He described the recognition as a reflection of Telangana’s rapid economic growth and development over the past decade.
KTR said the World Bank’s acknowledgment is not merely a statistical milestone but a global recognition of KCR’s governance model, commitment, and long-term vision. He recalled that Telangana, which had faced decades of neglect before statehood, emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing and most prosperous states within ten years through bold reforms and effective administration.
Highlighting the initiatives undertaken during the BRS regime, KTR said landmark programmes such as TS-iPASS, the Kaleshwaram Project, Mission Kakatiya, and Rythu Bandhu played a pivotal role in accelerating industrial growth, strengthening agriculture, attracting investments, creating employment opportunities, and ensuring inclusive development across the state. He said these initiatives laid the foundation for Telangana’s sustained economic progress.
Praising KCR’s leadership, KTR said transforming the destiny of a state requires vision, determination, and administrative excellence, adding that the World Bank’s recognition further validates Telangana’s globally acclaimed development model.
Taking aim at the Congress government, KTR criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for repeatedly portraying Telangana as a financially distressed state. He alleged that such claims were being made to divert attention from the government’s inability to fulfill its election promises. According to KTR, internationally accepted economic indicators have disproved these allegations and reaffirmed the strong economic foundation built during the BRS administration.
He asserted that the people of Telangana clearly understand the difference between a government that delivered development through vision and performance and one that attempts to cover up its shortcomings through political propaganda.
